Liturgy

The Word of God in our liturgy and Christian life

Over the past decades we have become more aware of the importance of the Word of God in our liturgy and our Christian life. The fact we now have the word proclaimed by parishioners highlights this, reminding us that we are all called to proclaim the Word of God by our daily lives. Our list of readers has grown over the years as people either volunteer or are volunteered by “liturgical talent spotters”!

Our ministry is essential for the community, but in fact is an extraordinary enrichment for ourselves.

Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy takes place at each weekend Mass in both parishes.

We share our faith with the children by listening and discussing the theme of the day’s reading in a way that the children can understand. This is followed by an activity designed to reinforce the message of the Gospel and how it relates to their own lives. We do ask that children under the age of 5 be accompanied by a parent.

Our teams are all DBS checked volunteers who take it in turn to lead sessions. If you feel like lending a hand, we are always looking for more volunteers. No special qualifications are needed - just a love for children to help them to learn more about our faith.

You can contact us by email if you have any questions:

Sacramental Programme

Our parish programme runs each year for children in Year 3 (and above) who are baptised in the Catholic faith. Children outside our own parish schools are very welcome to join us.

The Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are celebrated at this time.

Parents will be invited to an introductory meeting in the autumn term where they will register their child for the programme and receive a list of dates. We begin in Advent by formally enrolling the children during Mass.

We use our own programme using the Salford Diocese guidelines. Currently this is both an online and written programme of work which is sent out monthly. Parents will work through the programme together with their child. Help and support is available at all times should you need it.
