Music
The Music Ministry oversees all music in the Parish
The music group helps to support music across the whole parish. We provide music at the 3 Sunday masses, as well as at special services such as Youth masses and Holy Hour services. Our aim is for there to be a shared repertoire of a variety of music across the parish – both traditional and modern, both quiet/contemplative and joyful/worship and praise. In this way our liturgies can be rich, uplifting, and inclusive for all members of the parish.
We are keen to welcome musicians and singers of all ages, including young musicians. If you’re interested in joining us, come and have a chat after mass to see what’s involved.
We have a monthly rehearsal, normally on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30 pm at St Thomas of Canterbury church. Everyone is welcome – singers and musicians, people of all ages - including people who would like to sing as part of the congregation rather than in the group leading the music at mass. If you would like to come along, do join us: you would be very welcome.
If you would like to be involved in planning the music, we would be glad to include you in our planning meetings, which happen every few months.
Music for the Sunday masses is provided as follows –
Saturday Vigil Mass 5.30 pm, St Thomas of Canterbury – Keyboard player supported by singers in the congregation
Sunday 9.30 am Mass, St Joseph’s – Keyboard and guitar, with supporting singers and percussion
Sunday 11.15 am Mass, St Thomas of Canterbury
Alternating weeks –
Organ / Guitar with supporting singers and percussion
For special occasions such as Easter and Christmas, the music groups from both churches combine to help provide a rich liturgy.
If you are interested in helping with the music at any of the regular masses or on special occasions, you would be very welcome – please contact Liz Moxham for more information.
